Day 31

Today my legs were still sore from the long run 2 days ago--my calves in particular--I feel like I cannot stretch those babies enough! Yesterday I just felt like having a lazy day, so I did some crunches and then laid in bed watching Weeds and snacking for about 3 hours. Today I felt a little more energetic so I stretched a bunch and then headed to the gym for my 2-4 mile run.
  • Warm-up: 15:00 elliptical "cardio" session
  • Run: 4 miles, about 37:20
    • Mile 1 was somewhat slower than the others; I ran this one with the incline set at 3 and if I'm remembering correctly had climbed about 120 feet by the end of the mile--a lot better than the whopping 23 feet I climbed during my outdoor run. Wah. The girl on the treadmill next to me kept humming discordantly and jarring me out of my zone--I found it difficult to keep my mind on the article I was reading in US Weekly.
  • Cooldown: 1/2-mile walk
  • Strength circuit
  • Stretch
I saw an article in the paper today about "The Runner's High"--have you guys ever experienced this? Extreme euphoria, etc, upon completion of a run. I know I felt pretty elated after completing 5 miles on Saturday, and I spent the remainder of the day telling people about it and asking "Can you believe I did that?" and "Don't you think I'm awesome?" The article mentioned one woman who completed a marathon and then a little while later burst into tears at the sight of a puppy--she was just so emotionally overwhelmed.

Back to school for me tomorrow. Only 6 short weeks 'til I'm officially a Cal alum!
