Training Day 14

  • 40-minute elliptical "cardio" workout
    • This elliptical was totally mental and gave me a variety of heart rate readings ranging from 103 to 196. Thanks, elliptical. I know I can count on you in the event of serious heart trauma.
  • 2-mile run (just under 20 minutes--first half on 3% incline)
    • I wonder how steep the hills we'll be running in SF will be? Karen, do you have a approximate idea? I don't remember seeing that info on the map.
  • 1/2-mile cooldown walk
  • strength circuit
  • stretch
I rushed through my weights a bit because my boss showed up at the gym and totally harshed my mellow, but otherwise it was a nice workout and I feel a lot less stressed than I did yesterday. Tomorrow's my long run (2 run + 2 walk) but I'm going to stretch the run as far as I can. Unfortunately (though very nice for me as a biker) Sacramento is flat as my future stomach, so I'm going to have to do any hill training at the gym.

It started raining on my way home--weird spring rain with huge puffy clouds and lots of blue sky and sun but pouring rain nonetheless. It only lasted for a few minutes and I'm hoping I'm safe for my outdoor run tomorrow morning.

Cheers, ladies!

Are there any parks or trails you can drive to? I mean, I learned today that running hills on a treadmill and running them outside are two different animals. When I was at Ft. Bliss (which is, itself, very flat), we would run stairs during PT to simulate hills. Oh, and we'd meet at the local canyon (yeah, a real, live canyon) and run that bad boy. Talk about a long, steep hill. But the view was awesome and the way down was cake!
