For some reason last night I was feeling like I'd been slacking, or like I was getting out of shape or something. I don't know why--maybe the 2-mile "long run" this week was a shock to my system. Anyway, today I decided to ramp up my run a little bit:
Warm-up: 15 minutes on the elliptical
Run: 2 miles @ 17:03--wowee!! If I could run even half the race at this pace I would be ecstatic.
Cool-down-ish run: 1 mile @ incline of 2--10:00
1/2-mile walk
I'm still kind of breaking in my new shoes. The left one is totally scraping the back of my heel, and the right one has something weird poking into my arch. I've already run outside with them so I'm hoping this will improve soon. Better socks would probably help...the ones I wore today were really thin. Otherwise, I'm feeling pretty good. My hip feels a lot better already, and my leg is definitely hurting less, though I haven't run outside again since Saturday.
I was thinking as I left the gym how the first time I went there, about 3 years ago, I worked out on an elliptical for about half an hour. By the end of the half hour I was totally exhausted, lightheaded, and I think I felt a little like I was going to barf. My face was beet red--I thought someone might stop me and insist that I receive medical attention. I can't believe what bad shape my poor little heart was in at the time! In some ways I feel like a completely different person, and though 3-4 years ago I probably wouldn't have really believed it, subtracting cigarettes and adding tons of exercise has made me enjoy life SO much more than ever before. Now I just need to figure out how to live forever!

That's so funny. I was talking to Stephanie today and she was saying it seems like our training is getting less rigorous too! I think it's just to prep us for the 6 miler this weekend. wah wah wee wah!
